As fall settles in, it's time to get cozy! This means bringing out your best throws, digging out your plaid jackets for the pumpkin patch, and dawning your best puffy coat. As we all know, children grow quickly, so this makes October the best time to gather up our outerwear and see what still fits. Before you know it, your missing mittens will have found a match. Soon you'll be making the best leaf piles that ever existed and drinking cider or hot cocoa under a warm glowing light while you drown in fuzzy blankets. What could be better?
Gather all of your outerwear. I'm talking hats, gloves, snow pants, boots, cardigans, jackets, sweaters, coats, and blankets! Better yet, have your kids help - Tell them it's just like Pokemon and you gotta catch 'em all! Match the items by category. Dig out your favorite blankets, only keeping what you need and love. What outerwear fits and what needs to be replaced this season? Make a note on your fridge of the items and new sizes you need so when it comes to shopping time, you'll be prepared. Remember to create a find-it spot or outerwear drop zone, so you don't end up buying excess after you've decluttered. You know they're going to drop it like it's hot anyway the second they come through that door.
Another Quick Decluttering Tip: Have the kids do the matching for you! It will save you time and allow them to still interact with you while you make the decisions. Then, let them put the belongings where they belong, it's a great reminder and practice that will ultimately make your life easier.
